Why join or fund CSSC:
Since 2002, CSSC has been the only California-wide group led by college students and alumni to collaboratively and nonviolently transform our colleges and communities into models of ecological, economic, and social sustainability. CSSC has coordinated with more than 36 campuses and has trained thousands of students.
CSSC is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit project of the Earth Island Institute (EII) which provides governance and financial oversight. In other words, your tax-deductible donation will be used wisely!
Our programs get results:
Fossil Free Campaign: Moved $200 million dollars in university endowments from polluting fossil fuels to socially responsible investments.
Solidarity Organizing Program (SOP): Created trainings on how to achieve environmental and social justice through an intersectional lens (how the overlap of race, gender, sexuality, and class contributes to systemic oppression). Workshops include Queer Liberation, Politics of Veganism, Decolonization, De-carbonization, Youth in Climate Justice, and Storytelling.
Field Organizer Training: Trained students in leadership and organizational development, outreach, national and state campaign strategy, coalition building, and events management.
Convergences: Hosted annual student-led workshops.
Leadership Retreats: Update the strategic plan.
Meet one of the many leaders CSSC created:
Before Emili Abdel-Ghany found CSSC, she came to UC Davis excited about environmental and social justice, but had never taken a leadership role. At CSSC, she was really inspired to see older students invest in the leadership of younger students.
So she created the CSSC Solidarity Organizing Program to train students to create a more equitable and sustainable world by being in solidarity with movements that create equality for people that are oppressed because of their race, gender, sexuality, or class.
Adopt a college student:
$30 provides one student with housing and food for a weekend at one of our semi-annual leadership retreats.
If you donate $20 or set up a recurring donation, you’ll get a free subscription to the Earth Island Journal, an award-winning quarterly journal investigating many global environmental and social issues.
Even $5 will help:

Leave a legacy: A bequest or planned gift might allow you to bypass capital gains and estate taxes. You don’t need significant assets or an estate plan to include CSSC in your will. A bequest can designate CSSC as the beneficiary of your retirement fund, bank account, insurance policy, or real estate. Gifts can be made in a specific dollar amount, a percentage, or even specific assets. Contact email@example.com or (510)859-9155.
